Experience

The world's oldest annual marathon, the Boston Marathon has ranked as one of the world's most prestigious road racing events since its inception in 1897. However, it only officially qualified as a marathon in 1924, when the distance was increased from 26 miles to 26.2miles! The Boston Marathon has established itself as a distinguished event within the sport of road racing by virtue of its traditions, longevity, and method of gaining entry into the race. Before You Go

Things you need to know

FAQs

Q.1 Is the race entry guaranteed if I book the Boston Marathon trip through Active Holiday Company? Do I need a time qualification to run through Active Holiday Company? Open or Close

Yes, all of our World Marathon Majors trips include guaranteed race entry. For Boston, you do not need to have a time qualification to register through a tour operator. However, you will need to finish the marathon within 6 hours, in accordance with the event rules. The official cut-off time is 5.30 PM.

Q.2 Is it possible for me to buy just the race entry and make my own accommodation arrangements? Open or Close

As tour operators, we are required to sell the race entry along with accommodation. It is not possible to buy just the race entry.

Q.3 I’ve got the race entry through the ballot/charity, can I book the accommodation through Active Holiday Company? Open or Close

Yes, it is possible for you to stay with our group and benefit from all other services even if you already have the entry or if you are travelling as a non-running companion.

Q.4 Is it possible for me to upgrade/downgrade my accommodation? Open or Close

No, it is not possible to change hotels when you travel with us on certain races, including the Boston Marathon. We value the benefits of our runners staying together at a single hotel and also we contract our hotels based on group travel, so it is not possible to upgrade/downgrade to a different hotel when you are part of our group.

Q.5 I am a single traveller, is it possible for me to get a twin share room? Open or Close

We have several single travellers interested in sharing a room. Wherever possible, we try to pair up people who have requested rooms on a twin share basis. However, please keep in mind that this is not a guarantee and in some cases you might be required to take a single room. Please also be aware that twin rooms are hard to get in the US so it is likely that you will end up with a king-size bed that you will have to share with another runner.

Q.6 What category of hotels are used? Open or Close

Downtown Boston has very limited hotel availability and the surge in demand during events has resulted in a scarcity of rooms as well as an increase in hotel prices. Active Holiday Company has had to change its hotel location from 2022 on account of this. Location being extremely important to our runners, we have chosen a business hotel that provides the best value for its proximity from the start and finish lines. The hotel also offers all the comforts a runner might want, such as a lounge, gym, super comfortable beds, and a restaurant. All the rooms have a coffee machine and the hotel offers free Wi-Fi.

Q.7 Can I book extra nights before or after the race? Open or Close

Yes, please get in touch with us and we will be happy to book the extra nights for you. We can also help you plan your extended travel should you like to tour the US after the Boston Marathon.

Q.8 How far is the hotel from the start/finish line? Open or Close

Eliot Hotel is just minutes from the finish line on Copley Square, and Hynes Convention Center, the location of the Boston Marathon Expo.

Q.9 Will I have to collect my own bib? Open or Close

Yes, all the World Marathon Majors require that the participants attend the expo in person and collect their bibs. Your travel documents will contain detailed instructions on how to get to and from the expo from your hotel.

Q.10 This is my sixth World Marathon Major, how do I receive my Six Star Medal at the finish line? Open or Close

If you have booked your sixth and final Abbott World Marathon Major race, kindly let us know. We will guide you through the process of collecting your Six Star Finisher Medal at the finish line.

Q.11 Is it possible for me to defer my registration to the following year? Open or Close

The Boston Marathon does not permit runners to defer their registration.

Q.12 Is it possible for me to transfer my registration to another runner? Open or Close

The Boston Marathon does not allow runners to transfer their registrations.

Q.13 Will my travel insurance cover the cancellation fee in case of a cancellation - either by me or by the event organiser? Open or Close

Most Indian insurance providers cover a very small part of the cancellation fee. The exact coverage will be detailed in the conditions of your insurance policy and we encourage you to check whether you can make a claim with your provider directly.

Q.14 Can Active Holiday Company assist me with visas and air tickets? Open or Close

Yes, we can help you with visas and flight tickets for an additional charge. Please get in touch with us for details.

    Boston Marathon 2024

I have travelled with Gauri and Active Holidays for a number Marathons and different countries and cities.

The knowledge of these world majors is evident in meticulous planning that goes behind the scenes. It ranges from strategically located hotels, support during the trip, optimised number of nights and hosts of other things.

The 10 yrs of them being in the business and passionately supporting the running community to fulfil their dreams is quite commendable

Tips for future travellers for this trip

The team is experienced and would suggest to stick to suggestions and recommendations

Other miscellaneous information that can help future travellers

The insta live sessions conducted by yourselves is good. I would suggest that you do a few more insta live sessions to provide insights into the course and training will help the participants immensely.
