Portugal

The westernmost country in Europe, Portugal is cut through by the river Tejo (the longest river in Iberia) which empties into the Tagus Estuary. The Atlantic Ocean with its swirling indigo and turquoise water and pretty islands (some of which belong to Portugal) lazes on the Portuguese coast. Sitting by the ocean, eating some deliciously prepared cod, you are almost caught up in the exploration-fever to which Vasco Da Gamma succumbed when he set sail for India in 1497.

Visit the beautiful Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, the archaic Roman ruins of Conimbriga and cathedrals, Museums and other historical monuments with their own impressive style of architecture. Try out some scrumptious seafood and trek along some stunning trails as you soak in the Portuguese sun.

The currency used is the Euro and the official language is Portuguese. You will have a fabulous experience regardless of when you decide to go; however, temperatures can soar in July and August. If you want to catch a festival, you will have to check on the dates as they vary from year to year.
